Educational Qualification
  • Candidates must possess a graduate degree from universities recognized by the central or state legislature in India, or institutions declared deemed universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or an equivalent qualification.
Age Limit(As On 01/08/2024)

Age Relaxation in Upper Age Limit
  • 5 years for SC/ST Candidates
  • 3 years for OBC candidates
  • 10 years for PWD candidates (13 years for OBC, 15 years for SC/ST)

Selection Process
  • The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination selects candidates for the Main Examination through an objective type format. and
  • The Civil Services (Main) Examination comprises a written test followed by an interview to select candidates for various services and posts.
Preliminary Examination
  • The Preliminary Examination will comprise two papers of Objective type (multiple-choice questions), totaling a maximum of 400 marks.
  • The Preliminary Examination serves solely as a screening test. The marks obtained in this stage by candidates qualifying for the Main Examination will not contribute to their final order of merit.
  • Candidates will face a penalty of deducting one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to each question answered incorrectly in the examination.
  • Question papers will be available in both Hindi and English languages for the convenience of candidates.
  • Each paper in the examination will have a duration of two hours.
Main Examination
  • The Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an interview test.
  • The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects set out in sub-section (B) of Section II, of which two papers will be qualifying.
  • Section II (B) Marks obtained for all the compulsory papers (Paper-I to Paper-VII) and Marks obtained in the Interview for Personality Test will be counted for ranking.
  • Candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Civil Services (Main) Examination as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, shall be summoned by them for an Interview/Personality Test, sub-section (C) of Section-II.
  • The number of candidates to be summoned for Interview/Personality Test will be about twice the number of vacancies to be filled.
  • The Interview/Personality Test will carry 275 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks).

Application Process- UPSC Civil Service Exam

The UPSC Application Form for 2024 was released on 14th February 2024, concurrently with the notification, and the deadline for submission is 5th March 2024, until 6 PM. Guidelines for completing the online application form are outlined below:

  • The application correction window will be open for 7 days, from 6th March to 12th March 2024.
  • Once submitted, candidates are unable to withdraw their application forms.
  • Applicants must possess a valid Photo ID Card, such as an Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, PAN Card, Passport, Driving Licence, or any other Photo ID Card issued by the State/Central Government. They should have the details of this Photo ID Card ready during the online application process. This Photo ID Card will be the primary reference for all future purposes, and candidates are strongly advised to carry it during all stages of the exam..
